Question: My low dose ct showed significant cac in the lad. Taking rosuvastatin aspirin benicar. Should I see a cardiologist? Would stent be considered? Thanks!

Hello

After going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that if your CT coronary angiography is showing significant calcification in LAD artery and if you are having symptoms of chest discomfort or breathing difficulties or episodes of sweating then it’s advisable to personally consult a cardiologist.

Probably your cardiologist will advise for a proper conventional angiography which will ultimately decide the further course of the treatment.

Forgive me. The low dose lung ct report says “There is considerable coronary artery calcification seen worse in lad distribution than in the right or circumflex coronary arteries. This is similar to that seen previously.(Feb 2018)

I uploaded feb 2018 report describing cac as mild as well as mar 2020 report showing considerable cac but similar to 2018. Thanks again!

Thanks for uploading the reports, I have reviewed them but there is no definitive mention of severity of the disease in LAD artery as it was not a dedicated cardiac evaluation.

So it’s advisable to consult a cardiologist personally as few tests will be required for evaluation like stress echocardiogram and then a proper coronary angiogram of stress echo will give some clues.

So kindly consult a cardiologist personally.

I had another radiologist see the same report suggest that cac was mild but was looking for nodules. Would a bad angiogram lead to anything but statin/aspirin therapy? I’m on that and walk 10 miles/day. Would stress test precede heart ct? Trying to avoid medical interaction with COVID here as well as radiation from ct. Thanks!

If you are a regular walker without any significant symptoms or chest discomfort then there is no hurry but still taking into consideration the CT report it’s advisable to get a consultation done after sometime.

A significantly bad angiogram will requires a proper treatment strategy. Yes stress test is usually done before CT Angio or normal angio and is also radiation free.
