My Husband Has Secondary Progressive MS And Is Bedridden In

Question: My husband has secondary progressive MS and is bedridden in a nursing home the last two years. He woke up this morning and one of the CNA's noticed about 12 bruises (circular) on his back. He sent me a picture. My husband has also had a bedsore since February and a boil appeared near it last month. I am greatly concerned about these circular bruising spots that occured over night. No change in med's. Could he be bleeding internally?

I want a doctor located in the United States to answer my question regarding my husband. It's been an hour already and because the nursing home does not have doctors on staff until Monday (and this is 4:45 on Saturday), I need to know if I need to have my husband transferred to a local hospital!

Brief Answer:
Probably infection or bleeding disorder, I recommend hospital treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I already reviewed the attached report.

There are several medical conditions that can cause bruising spots.

The most common causes can be infection and bleeding disorders.

There are some examinations that should be done to confirm the diagnosis.

I recommend doing a complete blood count, platelets level, INR, coagulation time and clotting time.

In my opinion the treatment in hospital is necessary, so I would recommend to send him as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further

I've called the nursing home and am having him transported to the hospital as we speak. I felt it was either an infection or a blood issue....and your responses only confirmed for me that I have to have him sent to the hospital. Thank you.
