My Daughter Is 5 Years Old And 6 Months Back

default
Posted on Sun, 9 Jul 2023
Question: My daughter is 5 years old and 6 months back we shaved her head and the front portion which is the top layer we witnessed very slow growth compared to the side and back and hence we decided to shave her head yesterday and when shaving the barber mentioned that the top layer a kind of skin particle like a mixture of dust and skin kind off came out when he used the blade to scrap it and mentioned that it was quite common and was the reason for hair growth to be slowly blocking the hair follicles and suggested to use ayurvedic oil for cure. I am not sure about the merits of this, however is there any oil that should help, please advise. Currently, we use cold-pressed coconut oil and Sesame oil weekly once while washing the hair.

Brief Answer:
Cradle Cap/ Seborrheic Dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting me with your health concern and after reviewing your health query, I am of the following opinion:

- Condition is perfectly normal and most of the time theory is that with breast feeding some hormones are passed from the mother to the baby which may increase the production of oil in the oil glands and hair follicles OR if not breast feeding: fungus may grow in the sebum along with bacteria.

- Application of yogurt with lime juice and thereafter use of tear free shampoo is sufficient.
- Add Zinc gluconate (As syrup)

PS. As it is a self limiting condition, thus no medical treatment is necessary or required (unless and until it spreads to the face or become severe)

* Only thing to remember is: proper oiling before shampooing. (You can check with Shiro Abhyang/ Shiro Dhara) on youtube and later discuss with an Ayurveda Physician near your home town.
