Posted on Thu, 11 Apr 2019
Question: Mild laxity of the intra-abdominal wall without definite fascial defect identified to suggest hernia and mild laxity of the anterior lower abdominal wall without definite fascial defect, what does this mean, where positionally is this on the body and can it be strengthened?

So I am asking for opinion as approximately 2 weeks ago I received a MRI which did not show this in the reports. Can I get another opinion ? A doctor who is skilled in reading reports. Very Respectfully, XXXX

Brief Answer:
Minor laxity is reversible with proper care and time.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

* The presence of laxity of intra-abdominal wall suggest mild separation of muscle fibers in the midline of anterior lower abdominal wall , which is not sufficient to give way to intra abdominal contents to bulge and give hernia appearance.

* Primary guidelines at present are:
- Control body weight and body mass index (provide me your height and weight for better inputs on this).
- Have to keep blood sugar, cholesterol levels under control.
- Avoid excess weight lifting (if involved).

- Assisted physiotherapy exercises along with deep breathing exercises focusing on the contractions of lower abdominal muscles particularly help great to revert it.
- Avoid over eating and intake of high caloric diet , excess dairy fat , junk foods so you do not get extra fat deposition and more laxity.

Hope this information will help you.
Wish you great health.
