Is Minor Hit To Head Of An Infant A Serious Cause For Concern?

Question: I have a 3 month old daughter and as I was lifting her up to put her in her car seat, I accidentally bumped the top of her head on the ceiling of the vehicle. The ceiling has a soft material covering the firm surface, but it's not super plush either. It wasn't too hard, but she cried hard afterwards, so my husband and I consoled her and put her in her car seat. Then she got fussy again while in the car, but quieted down once we got to our destination and was fine as I held her and carried around the store. She then took about a 20 min nap in her car seat, then was fussy off and on until we got home. Now that we are home and have a fresh diaper and ate a bit, she seems alert and content, but has a more serious demeanor than usual. Should I be concerned or is she just tired?

Brief Answer:
No symptoms to be concerned.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

It is hard at times to assess head injuries especially with babies who can't express their complaints.

However in your case there is really no reason to be concerned. She seems not to manifest any of the usual signs of brain injury like loss of consciousness, drowsiness, vomiting and I assume no limb weakness.

So since from your description it was only a minor hit which shouldn't cause any injury, I don't think you should you should be worried.

I hope to have been of help.
