default
Posted on Tue, 29 Aug 2017
Question: My mother is 92 and is 4 months post hip surgery for a displaced fracture. Five weeks ago I kid napped her from the rehab center to truly rehab at my clinic in FL. (I am a therapist). She is on 3 medications for hypertension:Amlcopine 5mg, Losartan 25mg, Flurosemide 20 mg. She also takes calcitriol for kidney disease and lexothroxine. She has been rehabed twice per day fed really well (I also have my own farm). She is fitted, stronger and has lost 15 lbs. her blood pressure is now very low especially low during w/o (100/50) and her heart drops 15 beats lower than resting. She crashes with lightheadedness. BP during day is now going to 95/45. I would like your opinion before I call her doc in VA who is on 2 week week vacation.

Brief Answer:
Revise treatment for hypertension!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much of this query.

I have reviewed your mom’s information fully. Her symptoms are used by excess medication for hypertension. I will suggest that the doctor drops a few of her antihypertensive medications and observe how the values go. He can then reintroduce progressively to identify how many are needed and what dosages work best for her. The goal of her blood pressure treatment should be having values at least greater than 120/70 and less than 140/90.

I hope this helps and guides. I wish you and your mother well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
