Is It Normal For A 9 Month Old Baby To Shiver?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: My 9 month old does random shivers of her body. It almost looks like she has a jolt of energy. She is responsive after and does not have any eye rolling. They are quick, only lasting a few seconds. She had seizures at 1 week old due to mild brain damage. She has been off of pheno for about 51/2 months. Is this a typical behavior?

Brief Answer:
This look like myoclonic seizures - not typical

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I have gone through the history points you have provided and also the description you have described.

This is fitting into a condition called myoclonic seizures.

This is not typical behavior.

I suggest -

1. Consult your pediatrician or pediatric neurologist.
2. She might require an EEG and a neuroimaging especially MRI brain.
3. If either one or both are suggestive of seizures she will require anti-seizure medication and developmental follow up too.
