Is Hematospermia That Has Lasted Longer Than Before A Serious Concern?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Oct 2023
Question: I've had hematospermia in the past and it's always light and passed in days. My current episode has been going for over a week and has been high volume, probably 95 percent red. The volume of the ejaculate is normal, just so red. I've been to a clinic, had a urine test and ultrasound of the testis. both came back normal. I'm currently working on booking a visit with my family doctor as suggested. Should I be worried about the volume? most articles state pink, or strands of blood. Should I be clearing the system on a regular basis, or letting it heal?

Brief Answer:
Hematospermia is not a serious issue but needs to evaluate

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Based on the facts that you have posted repeated episodes of Hematospermia that you get is not a serious issue In majority of patient no obvious cause is detected and the Hematospermia gets cured without any treatment However it needs to be evaluated once to trace out any cause for the same so that effective and curative treatment can be initiated .

Semen consists of secretions from various organs like sperms from Testicles ,seminal fluid from seminal vesicles, prostate and mucus secreting glands in urethra .The commonest cause is
1)Infection of any of these organs
2) Cancer of the Prostate in age group of above 40 years
3) Abnormality in vascular architecture of the vessels like hemangiomas etc .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to establish cause for Hematospermia and the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning (TRUS)
5) MRI of the abdomen and Pelvis
6) Endoscopic examination of Urethral Passage and bladder (CYSTOSCOPY)

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for answering. I'm working to book time with my GP. Is there anything I should be doing to aid healing? I've found different sources with conflicting information on using the system to flush it out, versus waiting and letting it heal. Just trying to live with the situation to the best of my ability, as I wait... Thanks.
