Is Genetic Pool Disorder Heritable From Paternal Grandmother To Grand Child?

Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: Can a genetic pool disorder (bleeding) be congenital in grandchild from paternal grandmother, and can this affect bone density of the grandchild and make them more susceptible to bleeding to the brain? They were born with thyroglossal cyst, laryngeal cleft, small hole in the heart and laryngamalacia which I understand are rare congenital conditions can there also be congenital abnormalities in the back of the skull?

Brief Answer:
The described congenital abnormalities seem random rather thn genetic trait

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Genes can indeed skip a generation as more dominant genes take over. So it is possible that genetic pool disorders result from maternal or paternal grandmother. But the congenital abnormalities that you have mentioned, are not typical of any particular genetic disorder and it is hard to suspect just like that.

May be that if you could mention specifically about the conditions that the grandparent had and if you could mention the findings in the grandchild, I could perhaps be able to say whether they can be linked.
