Is Endometrium Thickeness Of 2.6 Cm A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,
I had an ultrasound that showed my endometrium to be thickened at 2.6cm and two vasular masses hypoechoic to slightly isoechoic to the adjacent endmetrium. They were both 1 cm. It then said they could be polyps or pedunculated submucosal fibroids. They also said they had quite marked vascularity. I am 30 years old. I am terrified I will have cancer

Brief Answer:
can be removed with hysteroscopy; wiil not cause cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to HCM,

I can understand your concerns,

First you need not to worry.it will not cause cancer.

Endometrium thickness is normal.

Polyp or pedunculated fibroid is removable by hysteroscopy. it is day care surgery. You can go home same day.

These two may cause symptoms like heavy bleeding or some times there is no symptoms

Discuss this with your Gynecologist

Hope it helps.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

Thank you. I have an appointment for obgyn. My periods have been regular but prolonged. Are fibroids and polyps vascular on ultrasounds? Why couldn't the radiologist say whether they were polyps or fibroids?
I am also worried that the masses are cancer and not fibroids.

Brief Answer:
chances of cancer are very minimal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.

Polyp and fibroid are both vascular.

Submucosal fibroids typically have an overlying layer of echogenic endometrium, which helps confirm their subendometrial location and helps distinguish them from endometrial polyps.
But it is quite difficult to distinguish them on ultrasound.

The best confirmation could be done by a histopathological examination of mass after surgical removal.

The chances of cancer in those masses is very minimal, as low as 1 in 10000 cases.
Do not worry about this.

Kindly discuss this with your OBGYN.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Would these both cause the endometrium to be thickened? This was the day before my period started and the endometrium should have only been 16mm XXXXXXX but mine was 26mm

Brief Answer:
both can cause thickening of endometrum.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Both fibroid and polyp are because of hormone imbalance.this imbalance makes thickened endometrium.

At this age, they do not cause cancer.

I advise that you should consult your Gynecologist and remove it on time.

Hope it helps.
