Is Absence Of Withdrawal Bleeding After Taking I-pill Normal?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Sep 2017
Question: I had ipill twice within a gap of a month approximately, the second time my husband ejaculated inside me. I had the ipill within 4-5 hours. Since then I have missed two period cycles and have not even got a withdrawal bleeding. In this time span I did around 3 pregnancy tests and they are all negative even when i checked recently. Could I be pregnant? Is there some risk? Please advise. We are not prepared for another baby. Really worried.

Brief Answer:
Get a serum beta hcg test done first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If you have taken the second ipill before the withdrawal bleeding following first ipill intake, then the second ipill can easily delay your menses and can confuse the pregnancy results. The best way at present to rule out pregnancy would be to get a serum beta hcg test done as with urine pregnancy tests, false negatives are common.
If the hcg levels are less than 5mIU then you can be sure that you are not pregnant and then can wait for the withdrawal bleed in next week. If still you do not bleed, then next step would be an ultrasound pelvis followed by a Day&C if required.

Hello doctor

Thank you for replying. I had my period after the first ipill intake. And around the 10th or 11th day of my period was the second intercourse. And the ipill was taken within 6 hours. It is since then that I have missed my period.

Detailed Answer:
In that case if withdrawal bleed has not started in next 7-10days of second ipill intake, there may be chances of pregnancy which can be conclusively ruled out with serum beta hcg test.
