Is Retin-A Cream Safe To Use For Acne On The Face?
I have been on doxycycline 100mg for 2 weeks now and the doctor has given me another weeks worth of doxy for the treatment of acne. Now my question is I have also been prescribed Retin-A cream as well but the reason I started the doxycycline was because my skin had some sort of reaction to Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% which I was previously using. This caused my already dry skin to become very red and very irritated/sensitive to the point that even moisturiser hurt to apply. The doctor told me to start off slowly with the Retin only applying to one side of the face at a time.
Is the cream really neccessary though since the doxy is working really well? At the moment I am also using a clenser, toner and moisturiser on my face twice a day which contain sacrylic acid in each of them. Would using these along with the doxy be enough to keep my acne at my bay because I really don't want to irritate my skin again since its quite sensitive.
I will post picture of what my skin is currently like and the products I am using.
Kind Regards,

Multiple approach regarding treating acne...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I understand your concern.
Please take in mind that the treatment of acne is on various ways and purposes:
- doxycycline is an antibiotic. It is used to treat various infections of the skin including those of acne. Please take note that acne (which is skin irritation/inflammation) is often associated with bacterial infection. Doxycyclin is used to treat this bacterial infection of the skin.
- Using cleansers, toners, and moistourisers will help your skin to get clean and less prone to pimples. However, it is necessary to use anti-acne cream. That will help regenerate the skin affected by acne without leaving scars behind. So, it is better you use it regularly as prescribed by your doctor for better results.
All the best!
