Question: I’m concerned I may have ovarian cancer. I’ve had pain in my lower right abdomen, lower back, right thigh and groin on and off for 3 years. I had a transvaginal scan and abdominal ultrasound approximately 12 months ago and they were clear. I’ve had the pain more frequently in past few weeks. My GP doesn’t seem concerned but I wonder if I should be having further scans as it been a year since my last ones. Do you think this could be cancer. Every time I look online about the pain ovarian cancer seems to come up all the time

I can understand your concern...

Well, given your description, I also concur with your doctor. It can be due to numerous other reasons (starting from the liver, gallbladder, intestinal, urogenital and several others). Cancer is definitely not the first suspicion here.

Moreover, the ultrasound scans were already done which didn't pick up anything as you yourself said.

Yes, pain abdomen is one of the many non-specific symptoms of several health-related concerns, and cancer is one of them. Online searches aren't personalized, and mostly generalized. So, whenever you search online, it'll surely pop-up at any corner simply because of this fact...However, it's definitely not the first suspicion.

Now coming to the persistent pain abdomen, in my opinion, you should get a CT-scan instead of Ultrasound of the abdomen done to look for other possible causes (namely: intestinal, Kidney or urogenital to be specific). This will give a far clear picture regarding the diagnosis (However, once again let me reiterate that it's not at all likely to be related to cancer).

So, please don't worry about it. Please discuss this with your doctor and proceed accordingly...

Let me know if I can assist you further.
