Question: I%E2%80%99ve had a cold for a week now and usually I would wake up with mucus that I need to clear. I have seen this before in September when I last had the cold, but I%E2%80%99m not trying to get worked up especially over all of this coronavirus scare. Is this just a cold or in times like this should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
If you don't have respiratory distress or high fever you don't have to worr

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I see the photo you attached and having this thick mucus doesn't give a judgment if you have coronavirus or not.
You can call 911 to ask for a coronavirus analysis. Take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for fever or high temperature.
If you don't have respiratory distress or high fever you don't have to get worried.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello, thank you so much for your detailed answer. I don%E2%80%99t have high fever, and I have anxiety disorder so I%E2%80%99ve been looking on google a lot and that causes shortness of breathe/respiratory distress because I%E2%80%99m so anxious. However, I%E2%80%99m not able to differentiate between the two. The media does do a great job of creating hysteria!

Brief Answer:
Call 911 and ask for a test

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I think this is related to both situations anxiety and flu . You can still call 911 and ask for a coronavirus test because it needs test confirmation before saying that you have it or not.
You can use ibuprofen or acetaminophen for fever .
Let me know if I can assist you further.
