Question: I went to my internal medicine doctor Wednesday as I noticed a small bulge in my lower stomach on the right side. No pain but I noticed it looks alittle different from the left side of my lower stomach. My internal medicine Dr. said it was a hernia. I have a vacation scheduled on Oct 15 from XXXXXXX to XXXXXXX and return in 2 weeks. Should I cancel the vacation? Is it serious?

Yes, from your description, it seems like a hernia only...However, no need to cancel the planned vacation due to this...If it's not causing any pain/nausea/vomiting or any other symptoms (which I believe aren't there as you didn't mention) it can be managed after your return only...

The primary management is by surgery only (nowadays, there are numerous microscopic/keyhole surgeries developed, and such hernia can be routinely repaired through them)...

No need to cancel the trip, just go for it...during the trip please be ensured not to engage in any strenuous activities, vigorous coughing/straining... Keep some mild analgesics (eg. Acetaminophen/Tylenol) handy...drink plenty of water to remain hydrated throughout the day...these should take of it...

After you get back, discuss with your doctor to proceed further...
