Question: I was diagnosed with strep throat yesterday. One of my elderly friends who I was helping out two days earlier asks if there are any precautions that they should take so that they don't get it also? They are worried because they have a weak immune system due to age and health situations. We did not share dishes/silverware, and did not have contact closer than riding in the same car together.
My symptoms have been mild. No cough or no sneezes. I had a slight reddish throat. Normal temperature and no fever. minor discoloration on tongue and back of the throat.

As your friend has an advance age and has a poor immune status,he is at risk and might get a cross infection.
You should mantain good hand hygiene by repeatedly washing hands with soap and water.
Use alcohol based sanitizer for asepsis.
Cover your face with tissue before sneezing and coughing.
Mantain a distance of 1 to 1.5 meters to prevent droplet infection.
Your friend should also wash his hands very frequently.
Don't let him handle used tissues or other fomites of your's.
