I Suffer From CAEBV, My Numbers Are Exploding My Cardiologist

Question: I suffer from CAEBV, my numbers are exploding my cardiologist said in 2012 when I was diagnosed. He also said that I was infected at a very young age. He doesn't know but I was repeadedly raped when I was lil, and I would like to know if there's a way to proof how and by whom I got infected? Further, is it possible to get infected at birth (me, when I was born as well as my children)?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it can transmit through semen.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on 'Ask A Doctor' forum.
I can understand your concern.
First of all extremely sorry to hear about what happened to you.

Answer to your 1st question.

Usually, EBV (Ebstein Barr virus) spreads via saliva. But this virus also found in semen and cervical secretions. So it can also spread from unprotected sexual intercourse though the percentage is very very rare.
But it is impossible to find outsource of infection from whom you can get the virus.

Answer to your 2nd question.

Vertical transmission (mother to child) is seen with EBV infection. But it will not directly affect your baby. But it can cause abortion, preterm labor, and other complications.

Answer to your 3rd question.

Yes, it is possible for your baby to get infected during pregnancy.

I hope this has solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.

Wish you good health.
Thanks.

First I would like to thank you for responding as a Human being as well as a doctor.
I wish that I had had the nerve to discuss this with my Board certified Cardiologist and Internist when I had the chance but due to my own discomfort and his overwhelming positive attitude some things I could not talk to him about. Now I no longer have this chance and it breaks my heart.
When I was tested in 2012 and diagnosed with T-Cell CAEBV my numbers where exploding and it was incredibly active. Through this testing my Cardiologist helped to narrow down the infection time to my early childhood, likely 4-6 years. What could explain the fact that from birth I was constantly sick suffering from high fevers and multiple infections over and over again. It got so bad that in my early teenage years into adulthood I suffered Pneumonia up to twice a year. All of this simply confused my doctors to the point where they resorted to insulting my mental state. I am so grateful that I finally found a doctor who thought things through and tested for CAEBV. Unfortunately he is no longer available.

further testing confirmed that the numbers continued to grow. The disease continues to progress and is combined with other terminal conditions I must face every day and I want the people who did so much to me to understand all that they have done.

I have suffered unexplained miscarriages and both of my pregnancies which continued suffered from pre-term labor as early as 6 weeks but I still managed to carry to term. My mother had none of these issues with 4 uncomplicated pregnancies, one of which she intentionally went for abortion.

I am aware that 90-95% of the world population are infected by the EBV virus but most are considered healthy EBV carriers. What are the odds that multiple children born of a carrier may have contracted the disease during the birth process.

Since I can narrow down the infection period and the potential source to 2 individuals I was informed that:

"serologic specification would need complicated DNA testing by advanced techniques in specialized laboratories. But if you restrict the number of possible transmitters, then it would be easy to arrive to an approximate conclusion, by checking their blood and defining which results positive."

Can you please comment on this, as well as provide some estimate of what the testing entails and cost?

Thank you.

Also, When I was a teenager (15/16) I was in an accident which resulted in me receiving a massive blood transfusion where most of my blood was replaced. When I was tested for CAEBV in 2012 and subsequent bi-annual tests the numbers were exploding. My Cardiologist was able to confirm I had to have been infected long before the transfusion and that there was no possible way the infection occurred due to the transfusion. What I want to know is if it is possible that this transfusion prolonged my life?

One more question, are you aware of any details regarding the genetic mutation which it is believed causes the EBV virus to become CAEBV? Can you explain please.

Thank you.

Thank you, I will look elsewhere for information in regards to the factors, Medical/Environmental/Genetic, which cause CAEBV.

Can you please address the other questions I asked?

Thank you!
