I Started Having A Cold Almost Three Weeks Ago Which

Question: I started having a cold almost three weeks ago which developed from sneezing into a bad cough and now has subsequently cleared up. I also had a blocked ear for almost three weeks but it is now much improved. However, I often hear a ringing noise from it. I saw the doctor a couple of days ago who inspected my ear and said that everything appeared clear now and there was no longer any blockage. Why am I still receiving a ringing noise from my ear and how long does it take to clear up please?
Many thanks

Brief Answer:
Hii. You were having cold and cough which the result of allergic rhinitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hii. You were having cold and cough which the result of allergic rhinitis. This allergic rhinitis is the inflammation of the nose. This rhinitis sometimes cause blockage of eustachian tube which is the connection between ear and nose. Due to blockage of eustachian tube there is fluid collection is the ear that may cause ringing sensation of ear. This is one reason for having ringing sounds in the ear. The other is cold sometimes cause weakness of the nerve responsible for hearing and it results in some hearing loss and ringing sensation. So you need to start augmentin antibiotic to prevent any infection to grow in the ear. Start antiallergic tablet levocetrizine to reduce allergic inflammation of the nose and ear. Take steam inhalation through nose. Do a hearing test pure tone audiogran and impedance audiogram and review with the report. If it is due to congestion of the eustachian tube then it will take another 2 -3 week to resolve. But it is due to nerve weakness then hearing test is very much needed. After seeing the hearing test only the further treatment can be determined. Please follow the medication and do the hearing test and follow up with the reports.

Thank you for a detailed reply. My doctor originally saw the ear was red and prescribed antibiotic ear drops for the infection which I took for 7 days but she said a couple of days ago that the ear was now all clear.
Is this a common problem after having a cold and what treatment can be used if I have a nerve weakness?
Many thanks

Hii. Sometimes after cold if you get an ear infection the ear gets congeste

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Sometimes after cold if you get an ear infection the ear gets congested and the middle part of ear gets accumulated with fluid. This can cause ringing sensation. You start an antibiotic, take antiallergic tablet levocetrizine. Take some mucolytic drug like bromhexine. Take steam inhalation through nose. Start some nasal fluticasone spray and saline nasal spray so that your eustachian tube gets patent and the mucus gets cleared. Do a audiogram and review with report. After seeing the audiogram it can be decided whether it is due to nerve weakness or due to fluid accumulation in ear. Continue the medication at the same time. I think it is due to fluid accumulation as ear drum was congested. Then it will slowly get resolved within few week.

Detailed Answer:
Hii. As you have told that you have blocked ear so there is possibility of fluid accumulation in the ear. I have told you the medication which you need to continue. I have also mentioned that you need a hearing test. Without it it can be determined whether it is nerve weakness or fluid accumulation. So please review with hearing test. Without any diagnosis treatment shouldn't be started randomly.

You said that it was due to fluid accumulation as ear drum was congested but how do you know it is congested? Do you not think it is due to nerve weakness, and if it is, what treatment can be used for it?
Many thanks
