Question: I'm not even quite sure how to describe this...

For the last year or so, I've been having the most strange back & side pains when I lie down. It just increasingly gets worse, now to the point where I have to frequently switch sleeping positions from left side, right side, back, stomach, and then repeat throughout the night. It doesn't feel so much like a muscle issue, though. Ive tried Yoga, which helped initially. I also remain fairly active, training BJJ several times per week.

Is this anything to be even remotely concerned about?

Brief Answer:
nerve compression at spinal cord level possible to cause such pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my clinical experience, substantial amount of back ache requiring position
changes and disturbing casuals can be due to underlying nerve compression at spinal
cord level or else.

Kindly provide me further details so that I can answer your query completely.

1. Does the pain require daily intake of analgesic tablet ?
2. Is there radiation of pain to lower legs from back ?
3. Do you have any systemic issue as diabetes or else ?
4. Any medical assistance taken previously , taken any x-ray evaluation for the same ?
Awaiting for your response.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the details.

* Considering the above details with previous narration, I quote possible nerve
compression as part of reason for the severe pain even interfering with sleep.

* Though primary relief can be obtained with analgesic tablet, spray application over the
back area, I recommend you to get one basic examination with the doc and get an
x-ray of the region done for further management ahead.

Thank you.
Do feel free to discuss further regarding the same.
