Question: I have hemorroids. Thenight before last I had a BM and saw Pool of blood in the toilet. This has happened before so I wasn%E2%80%99t overly concerned. I just had a colonoscopy done in February and everything was fine except for one polyp which was removed, and the internal and external hemorrhoids. I used a prescription suppository that night. Yesterday morning I felt like I had to have a BM and I went and it was just a pool of blood in the toilet, So I used another suppository. later in the morning I went to have a BM, and there was no blood. Then a little while later I had another BM, and again there was blood in the toilet. basically all day yesterday anytime I had a BM there was blood in the toilet up until last night when I had a BM and no blood. I used another suppository last night, and another one this morning. There was no blood at all during the day today, but tonight I felt like I had to have a BM which I did a small one, and again there was a pool of blood in the toilet. I will use The suppository again tonight. I feel like I have to go, but I don%E2%80%99t want to because I know it%E2%80%99s going to bleed. Is it normal for the bleeding to come and go for a few days until the hemorrhoid heals? I have never had it happen like this before. Usually it will bleed A couple of times and then resolved. I am telling myself not to be overly concerned because I just did have a colonoscopy done and everything was fine, but I do get nervous when I see the blood in the toilet. again is it normal if it takes a few days to resolve? Should I be concerned that it stopped, and now it%E2%80%99s bleeding again. Should I just continue to use the suppositories. They are prescription given to me by my doctor.

Brief Answer:
You should consult your Gastroenterologist immediately.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query my dear.
I've seen your details and I feel sorry for the problem you are having.

I am sorry but you should definitely be over concerned about the massive bleeds you are having and the source of bleeding should be immediately treated otherwise you may land up into severe anemia which itself is a fatal condition.

I am sorry but hemorrhoids would heal itself? This is a misconception. They won't .

Polyp was removed in February and this is may. Some times polyp regrow again.
I think you should immediately contact your Gastroenterologist and the source of bleed should be ruled out and should be immediately treated with Invasive/Non invasive method.

The source of bleed won't heal itself and right now conservative method is not working.
My suggestion is consult your Gastroenterologist immediately before you land up into any problem.

Blood is a source of infection for bacteria, Fungi etc. This may cause severe infection (as stool itself contains millions of them who may start forming colonies near the area which are bleeding.

Hope you would be fine soon.
Regards

I had a teleconference with the Nurse Practioner at my Doctors office on Thursday so she knows what is going on. She believes it’s probably from the hemorrhoids, and told me to use the suppositories and contact the office on Monday if not better. I forgot to put that information in my original post. So I have already done what you advised me to do.

Hi there again,
See right now it's COVID 19 period so most of the hospitals are trying to avoid patients(as health care workers are also at risk).
Definitely you could wait for a day or two but if heavy bleeding continues at least get a complete blood count done to check the levels of hemoglobin.
Regards!

Do you agree with the nurse practioner that bleeding is probably from hemmoroids? Have you had others present with same problem?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for follow up,
The problem here is not the source but the quantity of blood lost.
If blood lost in each bowel moment is huge then urgent colonoscopy or at least Proctoscopy should be done.
Till time please start taking sitz bath 4 times a day to heal any source of bleed.
Add Epsom salt half cup to a tub of warm water and sit in it for minimum 20 minutes.
Regards.
