Question: I have been having 2 types of very painful occurrences involving muscle locking - charley-horse type muscle locking. Across my mid-to-lower back from a simple movement and my right leg just above the knee on the back of my thigh.... I take Aleve and Advil (2 tablets each) to stop the pain and a LOT of Absorbine Jr to coat the areas. The muscle locking in my back generally lasts for 3 or 4 days before it goes away. The leg muscle locking is sporatic and is worse when i play golf--- probably from the leg pushoff of swinging and hitting a golf ball. It is my right leg only. The back problem has been ongoing for about 4 yrs but seems to happen more frequently now while the leg situation started happening about 2 yrs ago

Hello dear, welcome to "Ask a doctor service" . I read your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms of back pain, keg pain and charley horse muscle locking ( only one side, right side) are more related to a spinal nerve compressions. I guess the problem with your back may be a herniated ( bulking) disc in lower spine.
Taking aleve and / or advil is very important to manage the pain. Also you may talk to your doctor to add mussel relaxing injections such flexeril.
Also having corticosteroid injections around spine can be useful.
If you use muscle relaxants you will have less charley horse episodes.
Also you may consider massage, yoga and chiropractic.
