Question: I drove 2000 miles from Indiana to California, I don't recall having a bowel movement during the trip. When I arrived in calif. I felt constipated so I took a laxative. I had no problem urinating during the trip , but now I have severe urges to urinate, but I cannot even force the urine out.

Brief Answer:
Can be UTI or stone in urinary tract.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor" for your query,
Have seen your details,
There are two possibilities,
1)As you are having urge to urinate but you can't it could be a urinary tract infection.During long journeys water intake is compromised causing urinary tract infection.

2) A stone in urinary tract blocking urine.

Two tests suggested are-
1) Urine routine and microscopy
2)Ultrasound kidney urinary bladder.

Follow up with reports and drink plenty of fluid.
Thanks..
