I Am Taking A Descovy ( Emtricitabine And Tenofovir Alafenamide)

Question: I am taking a Descovy (emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide) and Isentriss (raltegravir). I have started taking trileptal for mood. my research shows a serious interaction between trileptal and tenofovir, in that trileptal will lower blood levels of tenofovir.

HOwever my primary care doctor tells me it is ok. I also take modafinil PRN which has a similar warning.

I was to get another opinion on this. Thank you

Yes, it is known that trileptal has a major interaction with descovy ( low effectiviness of tenofovir)

So, based on this you should speak with your doctor in order to use other medications like lamotrigine that has minor interaction with descovy.

Thanks for your answer....I am headed in for blood work on Monday. I only took 300mgs trileptal for one week...Is it likely that this amount of time would ruin the descovy-based regimen?

Please don't worry, taking trileptal just for 1 week cannot ruin the descovy based regimen.Trileptal could cause problem in the descovy regimen if you use it for a long time.
