Question: I am repeating the question I had asked few days back. There is also a blood test report attached with that question for your review.
Hello Dr RK. This follows my previous questions related to gastritis. I had a H pylori antibody blood test done. Results are attached with my profile. IGA was high but IGG and IGM were negative. Few years back, I had the same blood test done and it was entirely negative.
1) What does the present blood test mean for my gastritis which is not healing for 9 months.
2) Do I have H pylori infection.
3)Should I proceed with H Pylori treatment.

1) My IgA reading is 9.7. This is in the equivocal range of 9 to 11 and below the positive range of greater than 11. Does that still confirm H pylori infection.
2) Would you recommend confirming with breath or stool test or no need for that.
3)What treatment will you recommend. I am presently taking alfuzosin, avodart , omega 3, probiotics, osteobiflex, melatonin, multivitamin, DHEA and cialis. Any interaction with these medications.

Hi,
1. Yes, it points more towards H.pylori infection.
2. Yes, confirm it with either breath or stool test.
3. Triple therapy regimen is usually prescribed for H.pylori eradication with good success rate. ( Clarithromycin. PPI, Amoxicillin/Metronidazole). But clarithromycin has serious interaction with alfuzosin and should not be taken together. Likewise clarithromycin has minor interaction with avodart and cialis.
The duration of treatment of H.pylori is 10-14 days. You can discuss with your Urologist about stopping Alfuzosin, Avodart and Cialis for a period of 2 weeks while taking treatment for H pylori and ask for alternate treatment.
