Brief Answer:
Pedal edema

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to Ask a doctor.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

Ankle swelling might have multiple reasons. It is due to leakage of protein poor fluid into interstitial tissue from the permeable capillaries.
As it is on both the sides hence I am taking it for granted that you don't have any history of trauma or injury to foot.
In addition to a strain or sprain, swollen ankles can have causes that aren't due to underlying disease like fluid retention from large salt intake, prolonged time on feet(standing or walking), menstruation, pregnancy or side effects of some medications.
It is good that you are having a restricted salt diet.Avoid junk foods, pickles and spinach. If you have a standing job, please be aware of the fact that prolonged standing causes blood pooling in the feet and thus encouraging a leak and local swell.Have periods of intermittent sitting.
Some medications like corticosteroids and and anti histaminics have water retention tendency.Anti hypertensive drug amlodipine often causes that.Let me know if you are on any.

If such a patient comes in my clinic,I tell them a few life style modifications like avoid standing for prolonged periods, keep your limbs elevated while sleeping and sitting (this will push fluid by gravity),massaging, salt restriction and using compression by means of a crepe.
If the swelling does not regress,I go for investigations like liver function test(to know about plasma proteins), kidney function test (to know about the ability of kidneys to take out the fluid),thyroid profile (to rule out any thyroid abnormality) and lower limb Doppler (to know about the status of arteries and veins and to rule out any microthrombii) Please let me know if you have been investigated?

Time being, you can take a tablet of 5 mgram Toresamide at 10 AM and see the response.
Hope that I have answered your query.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Stay healthy.
Regards

Correct, there are no injuries involved. I have a sedentary job and try to walk a bit each hour or so.
I did have blood work done about a year ago and all numbers were in normal ranges with the exception of my cholesterol which was moderately high, not taking western meds at this time for that. I have been able to keep in the same range for going on 8 years or so with diet and essential oils for that.
What is Toresamide and can I get this OTC or is a prescription needed? I have remaining tablets of Torasemid (German prescribed) is that the same? It did expire 01/2019, would it still possibly work? I am not sure what corticosteroids are but I am not taking any anti histamines.

Brief Answer:
Pedal edema

Detailed Answer:
It is good that you are able to keep your cholesterol under control only by means of life style and dietary changes.Neither hyper cholesterolaemia nor the drugs used to correct it,cause feet edema.
Torsemide is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat hypervolemia, water retention, heart failure and high blood pressure.Torsemide is from a class of medications called diuretics('water pills'). They work by causing the kidneys to get rid of extra water and salt from the body into the urine. They cause an increase in urinary volume and thus relieves swelling.Yes...Torasemid (German prescribed) is the same drug but it has already expired in january. It would not work and may cause side effects so please don't consume it.
It is a prescription drug and should be used under your doctor's supervision.Your pharmacist can provide more information about torsemide.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX
I this is helpful. I will talk to my pharmacist today and see what we can come up with :). I did take a tablet last night before I read this and it has increased my urination and helped with swelling, but I will not take more until I talk to the pharmacist/or my doctor..
I hope you have an Outstanding day.
