Question: I am a female, currently being diagnosed/treated for HPV. I have a colposcopy scheduled at my gynecologist for Tuesday but have been having low abdominal pain (on the low right side) and slightly brown discharge for the past days. The pain is not debilitating but makes me feel uncalm. Shall I seek a doctor earlier than that?

Brief Answer:
Pain and discharge as a result of HPV treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I don't think you may need to seek medical attention earlier. I think the pain comes from the genital infection or the treatment you had for hpv.
If you did the leep procedure or conisation feeling pain us quite normal. Also the brown discharge comes because of the treatment you had (leep or conisation).
You may need to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain.
You can wait till Tuesday to meet your doctor.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you very much!

I actually panicked a little (I live in a foreign country so I'm particularly scared that something serious could be going on) and went to the emergency room. They took my blood and urine and found that there's infection in my urine and gave me antiobiotics. I'll be going to my colposcopy on Tuesday to continue the HPV treatment. Do you think that's the right process? If you have any recommendations at all, it's very welcome.

I just want to avoid reading random stuff on the internet, as that will only make me end up thinking I have cancer.

Many thanks again!
Have a good day.

Brief Answer:
Continue doing colposcopy and HPV treatments.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I am happy to know that it was just an urinary track infection and now a bigger problem.

I don't think you may have cancer despite having HPV because you are at a very young age and changes may need some years to develop.
Just continue with your gynaecologist doing colposcopy and HPV treatments. Also after you get treated continue the routine check up doing pap smear.
