Question: I am a 47 year old female. I was placed on 2 rounds of antibiotics for an absessed tooth about a month a part. After the second round (amoxicillin) I have been experiencing a gurgling stomach and very loose stool. I tried a probiotic (Floraster) and my symptoms worsened so I stopped. I went to my gastro and had a sample analyzed for bacteria and c diff all came out negative. Could this be a simple reaction to the antibiotics. I have been feeling this way for about two weeks how much longer until my gut gets back to normal?

Brief Answer:
Possibly due to antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice
I think most probably the gargling sensation and loose stool may be caused by taking antibiotics. They may have caused bacterial flora imbalance by killing some good bacteria. Not only clostridium but even simple bacteria imbalance can cause it.
Taking probiotics may improve bacterial flora and stop symptoms . Enterogermina may be used.
Also simethicone may help reduce symptoms

Thanks for info can you explain what enterogermina is also how long until stool normalizes. Is it usual for this to last a few weeks? One last question I need to travel this weekend is it safe to take a medication like pepto?

Hello dear thank you for asking again.
Enterogermina is a probiotics containing clausi bacillus and is used to normalise the intestinal flora. It may be used for 5 days to see results.
Amoxicillin may cause long term diarrhea and it may last for weeks.
Pepto bismol is safe to be used and simethicone also.

Thanks so much for your timely reply and patience. Just to clarify I should not be concerned if this lasts for a while it will gradually get better.
