Brief Answer:
can happen in perimenopause

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Menopause refers to at least 1 year with no symptoms. If bleeding restarts after a year of no periods then this needs to be assessed by examination and ultrasound.

The period before menopause is called perimenopause and this can last a variable amount of time, up to 6 years in some persons.

During perimenopause the hormone levels vary, the pattern of rise and fall is not predictable and this causes a change in both period frequency and length.

In most women there is a decrease in the frequency and intensity of the period, however the opposite can occur.
There can also be increased frequency and the period can also last longer and become heavier.

If the periods are very disturbing then medication (hormonal contraception), would be helpful to decrease the periods till the hormonal levels consisting start to decrease

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
