How To Wean Off Vicodin Slowly Without Any Side Effects?
Question: My baby is due 4/10/15. I have been taking 1 yellow or half of 1 yellow vicodan a day for years. When do I need to start tapering to half and then nothing in order for baby to not have withdrawals or issues? I am just a few weeks away from giving birth.. Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Start tapering right now.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
Vicodin is pregnancy category C drug which means that its effects on fetus are not known.
In my opinion, you can start tapering the dose of vicodin right now. Reduce the dose to half for 5 days and further reducing to half over next 5 days. Then you can stop the drug completely.
But all the dose reductions should be made under the supervision of your obstetrician and addiction-medicine specialist.
Hope this addresses your query satisfactorily.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks.

Do you think my baby will have withdrawals?
Brief Answer:
no withdrawals for baby if you quit now.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow-up query.
If you quit vicodin in next few days, I do not think the baby would have withdrawal symptoms.
The drug only stays for almost 24 hours in your system. Once you quit, it will be washed away from your body in some time.
Hope this helps.
I would be happy to answer, if you have more queries.
Kindly close the discussion if you are satisfied with my response and give your valuable feedback.
I wish good health for you and your baby.
Thanks.
