Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: My 3 ys old daughter is very prone to cough and cold irrespective summer, winter or any season. As per consulted doctor, it will continue till 4-5 yrs of age and everytime, we consult him, he prescribe Nimuliser with Livolin, Some Amoxilin antibiotic or Cefodroxil and one cough syrup like Benadryl DR, LCF kid or other having Menthol. Is it right that child will have cough and cold till 4-5 yrs of age? We tried homeopathic as well but in vain so as immunity increasing like Chyawanprash,Munostim, Septilin etc.
We try to keep her inside the house but still always worried about her cold and cough. Yesterday nigh she was having fever (99.3) and we gave ibugesic plus. What precausion, we can make or what is advisable to me?

Brief Answer:
Start her on Montelukast for atleast 2 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concerns but don't worry. Kids are prone to more allergic episodes especially the ones associated with airway spasms, breathlessness, cough and cold. This is due to immature immune system and narrow airways. But as they grow (as mentioned by your pediatrician) these episodes improve in most children.
In my opinion you may start her on Syp. Montelukast for atleast next 2 months. Ask your doctor about its use and its prescription This will help in improving her condition and also prevent similar episodes in the future. You may give it daily as a single dose at bedtime.
This drug can be safely given along with the other treatment as advised by your doctors.
Hopefully it will be of help . I would be happy to help you in any further child health related questions.

Take care

Hello Doctor
Thank you very much for your advice.
Sorry to bother you again.

Can you kindly advice about in how quantity, it should be given to my daughter who is 3yrs of age (last time we were giving her Homeopathic to avoid Nimuliser)?

Also, I do see many syrup with this salt so any specific syrup or any syrup with its content will be useful.
