Question: Thank you so much Dr.Divakara
Am so concern about my vitaminD level which is 20.2ng/ml. I occasionally feel weak, dizzy, lightheaded and shortness of breath but my doctor prescribed vitaminD (chol) 1000 and now taking it asked me to walk more in the sun. But want to know how long it takes

to see recovering from low vitamin D and if my blood calcium may not raise because it was 10.5mg/dl when tested and my thyroid and hyperparathyroidism were normal.

Brief Answer:
It shall take 6 weeks .

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

First of all instead of taking 1000 units of Vitamin D I would recommend you to take 60000 units of Vitamin D weekly once for 2 months .

Since your Vitamin D is marginally low it shall take 6-8 weeks to normalize. ( If it was less than 10 it would have taken 3-4 months ) .

But walking in sun has to be continued lifelong .

Your calcium levels are on the higher side . Since you have been tested for hyperparathyroidism and it's normal means your vitamin D deficiency is not affecting your Parathyroid and in turn not affecting your calcium levels . So correction of your vitamin D levels also will not affect your calcium levels , so don't worry.

But make sure you drink plenty of water.

Repeat Calcium levels and Vitamin D3 levels after 3 months.

Hope this information was useful to you.

Just relax.

Detailed Answer:
HI

There is nothing to be afraid of . Vitamin D deficiency is very common these days as due to lifestyle the exposure to sunlight has reduced . But it is very easy to correct and prevent .

Any other clarifications feel free to ask .

Take care.
