I do understand your concern.
It is better to give analgesic like acetaminophen or combination of acetaminophen with ibuprofen syrup.
Analgesic gels usually contain diclophenac(an analgesic)along with methyl salicylate and menthol.Both methyl salicylate and menthol gives some unpleasant burning sensation during initial few minutes of its application. Baby may not tolerate this unpleasant sensation.
So I would suggest you to give oral analgesic instead of local applicant.
Also I would like to get her evaluated by a physician to rule out any significant abnormality like ligament injury or minor bony injury.
