Question: In 1977 I had a scoliosis fusion T 3-L5 with a bone graft from my left hip. My hip has hurt some from t1997. It has been worse since the past year and is extremely bad since December. Question: what can I do for pain relief? Any exercises? L.knee replaced 1997, fR.knee replaced 1999, L shoulder replaced 2017, Feb very good. X-ray XXXXXXX 2018 socket was ok but a lot of brown spots on left hip and extreme degeneration low spine L4-5 and it hurts a lot. Going to 2 new hip dr. In 10 days. Taking Tylenol and 3 tramadol a day, not helping enough, excellent Phys. Therapist but cold laser, ultrasound only helps 1/2 day. Help pls for pain relief. Can not take NSIDs due. To Aspirin allergy. Also using TENS some.

Brief Answer:
Add muscle relaxants. Finally Total hip replacement may be required.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I understand you are worried with (L) Hip Pain. You have mentioned a lot of brown spots in (L) hip in X-rays.

These spots, in my opinion indicate that there is severe arthritis or avascular necrosis of the left hip joint. Medicines alone may not be of much help but you may add a muscle relaxant like Tolperisone (150) mg to your medications.

This kind of situation in the hip requires Total hip replacement for good relief.

The pain in lower back could be due to excessive or abnormal mechanical pressure on the spine secondary to hip disease.

I hope to have been of help.

Regards,
Sangeetha L.
