How Can Discomfort Near The Anus Due To BPH Be Managed?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Mar 2019
Question: I have been diagnosed with BPH and recommended for rezon procedure. That procedure will take place six weeks from now. The discomfort near the anus is most frustrating. Is there anything to do for relief between now an the rezon?

Any cautions about the procedure? 61 years old. Too young for this.

Brief Answer:
You can use medical options meanwhile.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you can use medical options like doxazosin or tamsulosin after discussing with your primary care physician or urologist and ruling out any contraindications. These can help with not only decreased size but with better bladder emptying and fewer pressure symptoms on rectum or anus.

No specific cautions are needed except that baseline labs and cardiac functions assessment are usually done before preparing for surgery. EKG and blood counts may be done along with renal functions.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope this has answered your query. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

For anal discomfort stool softeners and local anesthetic can be used.

Hi,

It's good that you have got relief from these medications however for anal discomfort you can use local anesthetic gels for pressure symptoms and stool softeners for decreased discomfort and smooth stool passage and less discomfort.
