Question: My 3 year old great grandson does not have a bowel movement in about 4 days. When he does, it is hard. He eats 3 times a day plus a snack before his nap. His mother usually gives him water to drink. What could be the problem? YYYY@YYYY

I can understand your concern.
Constipation is very common in this age. Giving high fibre diet(whole grain, fruits) with plenty of fluids helps.
Sometimes even after taking all these measure the problem persists. In that case you may need to give laxatives. Polyethylene glycol (like muout) is a safe laxative which can be given. Once the stool pattern gets normal you may discontinue it.
