Brief Answer:
Clear fluid diet, antibiotics

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Diverticulitis can be classified as complicated or uncomplicated.
Uncomplicated diverticulitis can resolve in 70 to 100% of persons with conservative treatment (no surgery or serious intervention).

According to guidelines, treatment can consist of:

(1) A clear liquid diet- clear liquids or foods such as water, broth, clear juices, plain jello, clear sodas, tea with no milk

Diet can be advanced slowly, change after 2 to 3 days if there is some improvement

(2) Antibiotics for at least 10 days. If he has not be given antibiotics, he may need a course, this can be prescribed by his doctor

If there is no improvement with this conservative treatment or his fever worsens, then he may need to be reassessed. More intensive treatment may be needed, this may include surgery unfortunately.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
