How Are Kidney And Liver Function Test Reports Interpreted When A 19-year-old Is Diagnosed With Hypertension?

Posted on 2 days ago
Question: My Nephew is 19 years old. A year ago he complained from persistent headache and was thus diagnosed with hypertension. Kidney and liver functions were good and thus it was justified by stress and was on light concur 5 for a while till he was normal.
This week it revisited and his early morning readings reached 190/135 mmHg and all day long never below 160/110 though first hand advice from the doc was to take the concur 5 twice.
We carried out Echo and I attach hereto the report and are to conduct new kidney and liver function anslysis as well as lipids and also might do XXXXXXX scan on the Aorta and Kidney artries.
Would you pls give me your readings of the case and how serious it is.

Hello

After going through the medical details provided by you I understand your concern for your nephew's health and I would like to tell you that I have gone through all the reports attached by you and all of them are grossly normal except for some slight variations in uric acid and hdl levels which again is not a significant variation.

His thyroid levels, serum cortisol levels as well as echocardiography is also within in normal limits.

Now the possibilities left behind as a cause of his young age hypertension is either idiopathic hypertensive disease or due to some renal artery stenosis.

So ultimately we have to wait till his kidney and aorta scan s done. Results of these scans will help delineate the cause in a better way.

Till that time you should continue with the antihypertensive medication as advised by your treating doctor.

I hope this information will be helpful and will guide you properly.

Kind regards

Brief Answer:
Hello Again

Detailed Answer:
Yes some patients do get these sort of symptoms after the test. Don't worry it will resolve in couple of more hours but if it doesn't then you need to consult your doctor personally for evaluation.

Once you will get the report just upload them for evaluation.

Hello again

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the feedback.

I hav gone through the report of CT and it’s good to see that there is no evidence of renal artery stenosis.

So now the the only reason of hypertension is idiopathic which is the most common one. The good thing is these type of young hypertension can very well be controlled with the help of healthy lifestyle modifications and medications.

So for now just give him the medication as prescribed by his doctor and slowly encourage him to adopt healthy lifestyle. Also keep a check on his salt intake as extra salt also increases blood pressure. Also keep a regular follow up with doctor.

I hope this information will guide you properly

Kind Regards
