Question: Hi, so I’ve had a week of chest pains.. It started with the left shoulder and after a couple of days it moved to my upper left and middle of my chest, sometimes just below my armpit. I don’t always have it but when it comes it lasts for hours, usually begins in the afternoon and stops when I fall asleep. I woke up last Saturday with my chest aching, like pulsing, it happens to me sometimes during the day but never during the night which I found strange. It went away but now it all aches a lot more and it hurts, I don’t know what might be the reason

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

Chest pain that moves from one place to the other (being first in the left shoulder and then going to the middle chest and then under the armpit) is very likely a muscular chest pain.
This is the case, especially if you do not have any cough, fever or shortness of breath.

I would recommend you to take Ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours after food and paracetamol 500 mg 1-2 tablets together with the Ibuprofen and try to rest meanwhile.
The pain should start to be better with the pain killers, even though it may last some days.

If the pain is not better or if there is any worsening or you develop any fever, cough or shortness of breath then you will need to have a visit with your doctor. In this case, a thorough examination of your heart and lungs should be done and very likely a chest X-ray as well.

I hope this is helpful.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
