Question: Hi, should turbinate bones be completly removed ? I had this done to help with blocked ears over a year ago, and hasn't helped blocked ears just made them far worse than ever , I've had all tests and scans and doesn't show up anything wrong with ears , so why are they still full of pain and pressure all the time no relief from it and nothing helps to ease it , my life is just a misery now with this and no one knows why , just stuck in house all the time as can't go anywhere in car due to pressure when travelling . Any ideas ?

Brief Answer:
Eustachian tube blockage

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Eustachian tube blockage caused by nasal congestion or blockage leads to heaviness in the ears or blockage or popping up sensation.
To cure this the nasal pathology must be treated and even if problem persists than tympanotomy with grommet insertion is required

Please send me the recent Ct scan paranasal sinuses done and any audiometry done so that I can suggest you better and advice you accordingly

Take care.
Thanks.

There aren't any blockages that they can see , and I don't have any printed out results to show or the ct scan , the ct scan showed enlarged turbinates which where removed . There is nothing more the doctors are going to do , but there must be some reason for having blocked ears

Brief Answer:
Eustachian tube blockage

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Eustachian tube blockage is a functional blockage and it can only be diagnosed on examination or impedance audiometry.
Your complaints are suggestive of eustachian tube blockage only.
Nothing can be done for the turbinate which have been removed.
You should consult an Ent specialist and get grommet insertion done. This will help to maintain ear pressure and will help you in flying.
Any impedance audiometry must be done.
Use a nasal douching. This will help to keep the nasal mucosa moist.

Hope my answer is helpful. Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care.
Thanks.
