Question: Hi. My dad is 56 Yo. He started facing difficulty in breathing about 5 years back. Doctors said it is due to stress and acidity. They prescribed some pills that made him gain weight and he always felt sleepy. Few days later he stopped having it. His weight was not reducing. Now he has controlled his diet and having less food and also doing yoga and exercise everyday. He has reduced the weight But still his stomach is always bloated some times it gets even bigger even if there is a slight imbalance the food and his lower back pains sometimes. His feats sometime gets swollen which reduces after walking for some time or by keeping the legs at height above the sitting level. Doctors suggested to have a liver test. That was done and report was normal. He has also got his heart related tests done. The report are normal. But what is causing this bloating that is continuing from more than 4 years and the other pains like lower back and sometimes tiredness and laziness? What might be the permanent cure for this?He also snores while sleeping.

Brief Answer:
It could be acid reflux.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
The bloating and limb swelling is probably unrelated,

The bloating and dyspeptic symptoms are probably due to acid reflux or gastritis.
As of now, he can try over the counter available antacids like omeprazole or pantoprazole for symptomatic relief. Avoid spicy foods and restrict the use of alcohol. The head end of the bed has to be slightly elevated to prevent reflux.

Generally, the symptoms will improve with lifestyle changes. Most importantly obesity also contributes to the symptoms.

If symptoms persist and endoscopy is required for further evaluation.

The lower limb swelling is quite common among people above the age of fifty, especially among obese individuals. Make sure that his blood pressure is well within the normal range as long-standing hypertension can contribute to edema.

Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
