Hi! I Was Put On Amoxicillin Today For A Sinus
Question: Hi! I was put on amoxicillin today for a sinus infection for the next 7 days. I am on the 16th day of my cycle. I have 12 days until my next period. I’m on birth control and forgot to ask if amoxillin decreases the effectiveness of the pill. I’m getting conflicting information. It seems to be more no than yes but I wanted to check with you. Will amoxicillin affect my birth control?
Brief Answer:
Amoxicillin does not interact with birth control pills
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Amoxicillin cillin is a commonly prescribed antibiotic and it will not interact with oral contraceptive pills.
Nothing much to worry and amoxicillin will not affect the efficacy of your birth control pills.
You have to be careful while taking antibiotics like erythromycin and tetracycline as it might show some interaction with hormonal pills.
Wishing all the best.
Thanks

Hi! I asked you the question about my birth control and amoxicillin on the weekend when my doctor hasn’t gotten back to me. I had messaged her the same question I asked you. This morning she said that the amoxicillin does decrease the efficiency and to use condoms as back up. Now I’m nervous because my boyfriend and I had sex Saturday and didn’t use anything. Why would she say one thing and you say the opposite?
