Question: Brief Answer:
No need to take Plan B

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. As long as you have been taking the birth control consistently every day, after 1 week it should have full effectiveness, and there would be no need to take anything else such as Plan B. You should continue to take your birth control as planned, and if there is a week of placebo pills or a week that you don't take pills, you should have your period then, which would further confirm that you are not pregnant. Only if you have missed pills in the past week would I say that Plan B may help reduce the chances of pregnancy further.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
