Question: Hi, I am not sure what I did, but my right ankle is red and swollen with several large clear blisters on it. I am not diabetic, or obese. It is only on one ankle, my whole foot is swollen

I think I forgot somethings that may be important. My ankle and feet have been swelling bilaterally for a couple of years, then randomly go away. Never have I ever had the blisters like this, though

Brief Answer:
Contact dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. The picture that you sent has the appearance of contact dermatitis, likely caused by something that contacted that area. If you can think of anything that might have touched this area, I would avoid any further contact with it. This rash can be treated with steroid creams, such as hydrocortisone, though it may need a stronger steroid that you would need a prescription for. Using a moisturizer can also help relieve the irritation from the rash and help it to heal.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
