Hi Doctor, My Wife Is 20 Weeks Pregnant And Today

Question: Hi Doctor,
my wife is 20 weeks pregnant and today we had her ultrasound done. from the ultrasound report the doctor's raised concern about the Placenta growing towards the walls of the uterus and called it Placenta accreta. they are refering this as a high risk pregnancy with chance of high bleeding and possibility to remove uterus after pregnancy. We are at USA now and all these are observations of doctors here. attached her ultrasound report.

Please suggest how common this is In XXXXXXX and does this actually taken into account as a high risk pregnancy in India? we can plan our travel back to XXXXXXX if things can be safer there as we do not want to risk her life here. should we consider abortion as an option now as we already have a child? the doctor here said Abortion/delivery both are at same risk at current situation.

her history - we already have a baby girl and that was through c-section n XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It is explained below

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting us about your healthcare.

I have gone through your history and report and understand your concern fully.
Placenta accreta is a condition in which the placenta grows deep into the uterine wall and adhere to it, it is rare (1.7% chance in 1000 pregnancy) and critical illness.

In this condition, abortion is also not safe and you may go for a C-section along with hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) to stop bleeding, as removal of the placenta may cause bleeding.
The chances of placenta accreta in your case could be due to low lying placenta.

Hope you found this useful, feel free to ask for more information.

Good luck
Regards

Your answers are as follows

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Sorry for the delay in my response.
No it is not confirmed placenta accreta ,it will be confirmed after next ultrasound but chances are more in your case as she is having low lying placenta.
The chances of c-section followed by hysterectomy is the treatment of choice in your case and chances of healthy pregnancy are there but postpartum bleeding chances are more and may need hysterectomy.

Good luck
