Hi Doctor, Last Week I Had A CT Lung Scan

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Nov 2020
Question: Hi Doctor, last week I had a CT lung scan done as a post COVID procedure. In the scan a well defined soft tissue dense subpleural nodular opacity, measuring 1.3 AP x 1.5(TR) x 1.3(CC)cms is noted in the apical segment of left upper lobe. Does this need more investigation? Is the size is the tissue big? Can this be ignored?

Brief Answer:
No, this can not be ignored.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
No this can not be ignored. Because size is above 1 cm in all aspects.
Ideally repeat scan should be done after 6 months.
And if size is increasing then we need to undergo biopsy.
May I know your symptoms at present?
Smoking habit?
Any previous CT scan you have?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions so that I can guide you better.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you Doctor. I am not a smoker. I am 53, M, diabetic for 23 yrs. Had an angioplasty couple of years ago after I failed TMT stress test for 2 consecutive years. I cough (not more than 2/3 coughs at a go) occasionally, occasional heavy breathing (been there before and after my angio), have muscle pain in the legs (diabetic neuropathy) but otherwise I do not have other symptoms that I have noticed.

I do have a previous scan that was taken about 2-2-1/2 months ago when I had covid. I have uploaded the report and the scan photo here. I have also attached 2 videos of the latest scan (report shared with the 1st question).

Get done repeat CT thorax after 6 months.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the CT plate and videos.
In my opinion, no need to do anything now.
Get done repeat CT thorax after 6 months for size comparison.
If nodule is increasing in size or in number then biopsy should be needed.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
