Question: Hi Doctor,

I've been bitten by a dog yesterday. I am prescribed 5 anti-rabies vaccines by a doctor along with a Tetanus injection. I have bought 2 Rabipur but not able to get the other 3 vaccines of Rabipur. Rabipur is out of stock. So, will it be fine if I take 3 anti-rabies of another manufacturer? For instance, can I take 2 Rabipur and 3 Berab or any other vaccine? Please specify.

Brief Answer:
Try RABIPUR since you still have a weeks time

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I understand your problem.

Since you already got two vaccines you have six days time to take the third one which is taken on Day 7 after the first one. So try getting the same brand RABIPUR or even can even order online with proper prescription. If you do not get RABIPUR then only you can take other brands.
In summary, taking the vaccinations as per schedule is most important followed by same brand followed by any alternate brands should be your priority in order.
Hope this addresses your question effectively.

Thank you for your answer. So, if I take 2 doses of Rabipur on days 0 and 3 but am unable to get Rabipur later, will it have any adverse effect if I take anti-rabies vaccine of some other brand? So, will my body produce enough antibody to fight the virus if I take any other brand than Rabipur?

I studied WHO recommendations. It said that if the same brand isn't available, then one can go with any other brands.

Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
No harm with other brands.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Other brands would still produce antibody to fight against Rabies.
I do not think there would be adverse effects with other brands but keep the try on for RABIPUR.

That is it.

Thank you for your answer. I have been prescribed a Tetanus injection. But, I took the Tetanus injection a month ago and was told by a doctor that Tetanus injection has a life of about 5 years. is it true or do I have to take this injection again?

One last concern. Rabipur is a PCEC vaccine, which is it is a chick embryo vaccine. If I don't get Rabipur and get Verorab, which is a Vero cell vaccine, will it be fine? I mean what's the difference between Chick Embryo and Vero Cell?

Brief Answer:
Rabipur vs Verorab

Detailed Answer:
There is no statistical significant difference in the efficancy of both the vaccines. THe cell cultures of these vaccines are different and may be manufacturing technique. Since the manufacturing techniques differ, the dosage may differ too.

Also, no significant difference in adverse reactions between vero cell and chick cell.

You do not need tetanus vaccine for 5 yrs since you had already taken it recently.

Hi Doctor,

I was bitten by a dog 4 days ago. I am prescribed 5 anti-rabies vaccines by a doctor. I have bought 3 Rabivax S vaccine but not able to get the other 2 vaccines of Vaxirab S. Vaxirab S is out of stock. So, will it be fine if I take 2 anti-rabies of another manufacturer? For instance, can I take 3 Vaxirab S and 2 of some other vaccine manufacturer? There is a severe shortage of anti-rabies vaccine in the city.

Also, will it have any adverse effect on producing antibody and saving me from rabies? Please specify.

Brief Answer:
Please take any ARV now

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You can take other manufacturer's ARV. THere is no problem getting the right amount of antibodies. Please go ahead as you are running short of time to procure and take vaccinations according to schedule.
