Question: Hi Doctor, I have been sick since Monday 8 October, I had a temperature of 103.
I wen to a doctor and he put me on antibiotics (3 days course) he also suggested to go for Blood an urine test, which I did yesterday I went again for a review and temperature had come down to 100 and doctor suggested the same medicines for another 2 days and also asked to go for Dengue test as well.
Today 11 October my temperature has again increased to 102, and I have puckish sensation as well. I am attaching all my reports and prescription and would like to know your thoughts.
Also to note my platelets are little on the lesser side as per the reports I recived

Brief Answer:
As explained below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the reports. I do not see it to be a bacterial infection as ESR is within normal range. I do not suspect dengue as your platelets are also normal. Testing for typhoid within 7 days of fever is not significant. Also, widal is not positive in your report. Both H and O titers of 1:160 ratio is considered positive for acute infection.

I think it is a common viral fever. I suggest you continue the antibiotics and complete the course. Take Tab. Dolo 650 mg as and when required for 4 times a day maximum. Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juice. Eat fresh fruits and soft diet. With adequate rest and symptomatic treatment, you will recover. Viral fever will recover on its own within a week.

In case you are having a fever even after 2 days, I would suggest you get a blood culture done.

I hope this answered your query.

Thank you doctor, is there a reason why the temperature has gone up after it has reduced to 100, its been fluctuating, is this normal?
Also, my platelets count you mentioned is normal, but is it not on the lower end, how can this be increased?

Brief Answer:
As explained below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, there will be fluctuations in temperature. DO not worry. Take a lot of fluids and ORS. It will help. Your platelet count is 1.6 lakh. That is a good number. As long as it is in the normal range, not to worry.

I hope this answered your query.
