Hey Doctor, Last Week I Noticed A Lump On The

Question: Hey doctor,

Last week I noticed a lump on the lower left umbilical side at left margin of the rectus muscle. I went to my doctor who felt it and she said it feels like a Lipoma but it was a bit deeper in so she recommend I do a ultrasound however is it really worth doing? I only really felt it because i was running my hand over it. I have noticed some feeling of pressure in that lower left abodminal region where it is but I’m unsure if that’s in my head as I have health anxiety or part of my IBS which I’ve had the last 4 years? If it were a hernia for example my doctor would of been able to tell straight up from feeling my stomach and the lump right? Is there anything else that’s life threatening or dangerous on that lower left side that I should be worried about or any other symptoms to look out for? The lump feels kind of soft and rubbery like I can move it around is it bad as well that I keep touching or feeling it, can doing this that make things worse?

Thanks for your advice in advance!

Brief Answer:
Please give additional information.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, elucidate one.
Noted the history well and understood your concerns.
Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Does the lump slip under the palpating finger on pressure?
is it freely nobile?
Any pain or tenderness?
Sleep on the bed and raise the head to tighten the recti muscles - palpate the lump - is it still freely XXXXXXX or mobility becomes restricted? Does the size alter?
You can post the photo of abdomen and mark the position of the lump.
IBS is totally a different consideration and does not relate to such lumps.

Awaiting for your feedback.

Does the lump slip under the palpating finger on pressure?
I don%E2%80%99t believe so no.

is it freely nobile?
Not sure what you mean by this but it doesn%E2%80%99t really move around no.
Any pain or tenderness?
Only if I keep pressing on it a lot I feel a bit of pressure and I%E2%80%99m more aware of it but otherwise when I went to sleep and woke up I forgot it was even there until I started pressing it.

Sleep on the bed and raise the head to tighten the recti muscles - palpate the lump - is it still freely XXXXXXX or mobility becomes restricted? Does the size alter?
Not freely XXXXXXX it%E2%80%99s the same as if I wasn%E2%80%99t in this position it just feels harder in general but I%E2%80%99m unsure if that%E2%80%99s because the muscles are being tightened?

You can post the photo of abdomen and mark the position of the lump.
- I%E2%80%99ve attached an image of the location.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound is a must to confirm

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback , photo and additional information.
You are 22 years old hence nothing should be serious as there are no severe symptoms.
Ultrasound will help to confirm the cause of the lump whether hernia, cyst, lipoma or so. Once the diagnosis is confirmed your anxiety will obviously get lowered or vanished. Anxiety is the major cause of IBS and such problems.
So get this confirmed asap (as soon as possible).
Achy pain in left lower abdomen may be due to colitis/IBS.

The pointing of your finger in the photo indicates the area to be over rectus muscle on the left side.

Was there any direct or indirect injury over this area in recent or past time like while playing, motorcycle accident or direct hit?

Please let me know the report of Ultrasound of abdominal wall and abdomen proper.

Just an update I’ve noticed a little bit of achy pain on the lower left side around that area but I’m unsure if it’s the lump or not how would I know if it’s serious or not should I do the ultrasound?

I’ve also been passing stools and gas fine and eating food fine so I assume it’s nothing major?
