Hello, Not Sure What's Going On But Having An Issue

Question: Hello, not sure what's going on but having an issue with my period. It started on the 21st day of my cycle, 7 days earlier than expected and it started off very light and sort of dry. On the 5th/6th day it started to get heavy and looked more like my normal period. It's now day 10 and I'm still bleeding pretty heavily with blood clots that I can feel sliding down my vagina. They're also weird in texture, they're sort of plump. I'm getting mild cramps like little twinges and sharp pains, sometimes prickly right before a gush of tissue and liquid comes down. It feels like my uterus is being "milked". I'm also getting very gassy. Prior to this last month something weird happened. When I had sex or had an orgasm I would bleed. IT nearly seemed like breakthrough bleeding as if there was left over blood. there was even a clot. It's the first time it ever happened to me. I have run blood tests to check to see if I am pregnant which I am not and my other blood work came back fine. No deficiencies anything. What could this be? Just a hormonal imbalance or something more serious?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
I have read your notes carefully. The reasons for such bleeding could be of the following:
1. Pregnancy .
2. Diseases of the cervix like Ectropion, polyp etc
3. Diseases of the uterus like fibroid, endometrial polyp, adenomyosis
4. Hormone imbalance of which thyroid disease is very common

I know that you have done the pregnancy test. But please repeat it again. If it comes negative, you need to consult Gynecologist who will perform internal examination and ultrasound of uterus and ovaries and some blood tests to find out the cause for this bleeding so that right treatment can be given.
Have you been regular with Pap smear. If it is due, please get it done. Very rarely precancerous conditions of cervix are the reason for bleeding after intercourse. So this is important.
If you have further queries I will be happy to answer.

Hi Dr Ramadevi Wani,

The pregnancy test was a blood test testing my bHCG. So definitely out the picture. I had already had an ultrasound done and he ruled out fibroids cysts and the sorts. What I haven't had done yet is a pap smear. So I am going to see about getting it done. I also did get some blood tests done. Everything came back in normal range. There was a thyroid panel also done that came back in normal range.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Happy to know that the tests you have done are all normal.
Please get the Pap test done. If that is normal, then it could just be hormonal imbalance due to stress ( physical or mental) and does not usually recur.

If you have further concerns I will be happy to answer.
