Hello, My Partner Is 37 And On The Contraceptive Pill

Question: Hello,

my partner is 37 and on the contraceptive pill and suffers anxiety.

We had sex 4 and a half weeks ago. Methods of contraception were:
- pull out method
- contraceptive pill
- emergency contraception (taken within 48 hours) as she'd missed a pill earlier that week

She has been ill this week and she took a test last night and it was negative.

I'm wondering how accurate is this result and is it at all likely she could still be pregnant?

Brief Answer:
No possibility of pregnancy .

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX Elstone,
Thanks for asking.I have read your query &understand your concern.
Your girl friend had missed a contraceptive pill last month...so there was a possibility of conception. But it was protected by an emmergency contraceptive pill taken within 48 hours of sex....and an additional precaution of pull out method was added.
Emergency contraceptive pill taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex helps very well in preventing pregnancy...so there was least chance of conception with the said sex.
Normally home pregnancy test taken after 8 days delay in periods gives reliable results Emergency pill has a high hormonal content... the pill therefore tends to delay periods by 8-10 days. So your partner's case,a negative home pregnancy test after 15-17 days delay in her expected date of periods would give confirmed results .
I would suggest to repeat the home pregnancy test at proper time(explained above) it would clear your remaing doubt.
I hope the answer helps you.Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks
